Favorite Strawberry Recipes to Enjoy All Year

I woke up this morning craving strawberries, so a trip to the local farmstand is definitely on my list. The only tough decision is whether to buy one flat or two—such a good problem to have when berries are in season!

Fresh strawberries are perfect for so many recipes, and I always look forward to trying different ways to highlight their bright, sweet flavor. Below are some of my favorite strawberry recipes—simple, seasonal, and full of summer deliciousness. These recipes work great for casual dinners, potlucks, breakfast, or a special birthday dessert.

Strawberry Pudding Cake

This is my all-time favorite way to use strawberries. The pudding baked into the cake keeps it unbelievably moist and tender. I first learned this recipe from an old neighbor, and for more than 20 years it was my go-to birthday cake for my husband. I didn’t make it this year only because our oven is out of commission, but as soon as our new oven is installed, this will be the first thing I bake. It’s a comforting, crowd-pleasing dessert that showcases fresh strawberries beautifully.

Strawberry Sheet Shortcake

This recipe from my friend JJ ranks second on my list. It’s hands-down the best strawberry shortcake I’ve ever had—light, tender, and piled high with macerated berries and whipped cream. Sometimes in the heat of summer, we even enjoy it for dinner. It’s simple to make and effortless to scale up for a crowd.

Strawberry Basil Salsa

If you haven’t tried strawberries with basil, you’re missing out. The herbaceous brightness of basil perfectly complements the fruit’s sweetness. I love serving strawberry basil salsa with thin tortilla chips or on toasted baguette slices spread with a little cream cheese. It’s a refreshing, unexpected appetizer that’s perfect for summer gatherings.

Strawberry and Nutella Crepes with Bananas

These crepes are a breakfast favorite around here. Layer Nutella, sliced bananas, and fresh strawberries in thin crepes for a decadent morning treat. I always tell myself they’re breakfast, not dessert—one of the small joys of summer mornings.

Strawberry Muffins with Oatmeal Crumb Topping

For a delicious brunch option, these muffins are excellent. The oatmeal crumb topping adds a pleasant crunchy contrast to the soft, fruity muffin interior. They freeze well too, so you can enjoy summer strawberries long after the peak season.

Strawberry Bruschetta

If you love the blend of sweet and salty, try strawberry bruschetta. Sliced strawberries with a touch of balsamic, fresh herbs, and a sprinkle of salt served on toasted bread makes a simple yet elegant appetizer. It’s light, fresh, and fast to assemble.

Strawberry Streusel Bread

If your household is tired of banana bread, switch things up with a strawberry streusel loaf. The tender bread studded with berries and topped with crunchy streusel is a delightful change of pace for breakfast or afternoon coffee.

Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp

Strawberries and rhubarb are a classic pairing for a reason. A warm strawberry rhubarb crisp brings together tart and sweet in the best way. I once brought one to a potluck and it disappeared within minutes—always a hit!

Old-Fashioned Strawberry Ice Cream

Sometimes the classics win. Old-fashioned strawberry ice cream, churned until creamy and dotted with berry chunks, is a timeless summer treat. If you’re short on time, a quick strawberry blender ice cream is an easy alternative that still delivers great flavor.

Classic Strawberry Jam and Freezer Jam

Don’t forget jam season. Making a batch of classic strawberry jam is a wonderful way to preserve the taste of summer. If you prefer a quicker option, strawberry freezer jam is simple, fast, and perfect for spreading on toast or swapping jars with friends and family.

Summer is my favorite time to stop at local farmstands and see what’s ripe. Right now, it’s strawberries everywhere—bright, fragrant, and ready to be enjoyed. Do you have a favorite strawberry recipe? I’d love to hear what you make with fresh berries.

Have a great day,

~Mavis
